I can't believe its been over three weeks since I posted last. Not much happening. One thing that is happening,I'm getting frustrated with selling life insurance.I owe my company $810 for leads that haven't generated a dime for me.I have discontinued buying leads for the time being.Atleast until I get the $810 paid off. These leads were purchased in Febuary so I'm not going to count it against this months results.
On a more positive note,I do have two leads left that show some promise. I have talked with these people on the phone and they are willing to sit down with me to discuss their life insurance needs.
Also,I did two white bird releases for local funeral homes for a total of $150.They both told me that they were going to start using me for this service exclusively. That could be nice.
So, for March I made $150.This is certainly a long way from my goal of $4000.I'm not discouraged,I'm just getting started and I have a lot of ideas that I have on the back burner.

No Sale
NS, meaning No Sale; That is the comment I write in my notebook binder when I make a presentation to a prospective customer and they don't purchase.Usually, it doesn't bother me when I have to write NS.My prospects simply didn't have a need and/or a desire for my life insurance product. No problem there,I just pack my presentation bag and move on.
That is usually the case. However, this past Friday I had a NS that bothered me.It bothered me because my prospect clearly had a need and a desire for my product and I somehow dropped the ball by not closing the sale. I'm feeling that I let the prospect down and my own family down by not closing that sale.
To help me drown my sorrows with this particular NS I'm committing to some audio and print form of sales educational material.I should be over it in a day or two.
On another note,I'm trying to get my hands on $300 so I can start my next extra money project.I know that may not sound like much money to some.In this household $300 is a lot of money. It would be nice if I could get a few good insurance sales,or a few white bird releases, so I can spare the $300.Here I am with a goal of $4000 a month of extra income and I can't even come up with $300. Oh well, I guess that is just part of the journey.
I'll be back to knocking on doors Monday morning trying to present my company's insurance products.
By 3:00pm I'll be punching the timeclock for 8 hours of work ay my regular blue-collar job.

My Multiple Streams of Income Action Plan:Part 2
White Bird Releases
As a hobby.I've got some white rock doves (aka homing pigeons) that I raise and train. On very rare occasion,I've released them at funerals. The birds are treated like pampered athletes. They fly safely home to their loft after each release.
Can I make money doing this? That has yet to be determined.Up to this point I haven't made enough money from the releases to cover the cost of bird feed.I believe this lack of income is the result of my poor marketing of the bird release service.
Since I haven't marketed my white bird release service very well, I will have to put some effort into this to see if money can be made by doing this.
I will be surprised if this amounts to much. However,it may help get me closer to my goal of $4000 a month.

My Multiple Streams of Income Action Plan: Part 1
Life Insurance Sales
I obtained my State license to sell life insurance about 9 months ago. However,I have done very little with my license. After expenses,I made less than $1000 in 2010 selling life insurance.
Although I do enjoy sales, in all fairness, I haven't devoted much time to this activity.I will need to put forth more effort this year to increase my life insurance sales.Perhaps future posts will give the reader some insight into the ups and downs of life insurance sales through the actions of a rookie.
Reaching my goal of $4000 extra a month will unlikely be acheived by this activity alone. From my very limited experience, generating income from life insurance sales seems unpredictable at best.Life insurance sales will probably have a small and limited role in my overall plan.

Starting Point
Before this journey begins,a starting point needs to be established so we can measure progress,or the lack thereof. My first thought on this was to use net worth as the benchmark.I'll be discussing my net worth, but net worth isn't a specific correlation to my goal. So,what is my goal?
My goal is to generate $4000 a month of extra money from sources other than my hourly wage. There it is,my goal, the reason behind this blog.
Assets:
$150,000(aprox.) home value
$15,000 brokerage account
$13,000 wife's 401k ( she puts the minimum in to receive company match )
$11,500 total value of all 4 of our vehicles
$250 value on aprox. 25 white homing pigeons ( ???-I know. This will be explained later)
Liabilities:
$107,000 remaining on mortgage
$10,000 on credit card at 3.99% fixed
$11,500 remaining on auto loan
Intangibles:
fairly good health
wife's college degree in medical field
my life insurance license
Net Worth:
$61,250
Increasing my net worth isn't the goal, but it is fair to reason that if my goal is ever reached then my net worth will have increased as well.

About Me
Just what the world needs, another blog about money. So the question begs to be asked, why? For several years I have been searching blogs for alternative ways to make money. It seems like all I can find out there is,"make money with your blog",or "let's watch my 401k grow together."Any of that sound familiar?
This blog will be different from the norm. For starters,I'm 44 yrs. old and I don't have any money set aside for retirement,so we won't be watching my 401k grow together.Secondly,I can't type, can't spell, and don't know anything about blogging,so monetizing this blog is not high on my priority list.I quite college when I was 20 and have been a blue-collar guy ever since.Currently,I'm punching a time card for a local start up company at a rate of $10.50 hr.This blog will track my progress in pursuit of other income streams. so I can say goodbye to the time clock.
Posts that will soon be following will cover more about me,more about my strong points and weaknesses, and of course an action plan for getting from where I'm at, to where I want to be.
Be patient with me,I'll be posting pics and streamlining this blog as soon as I learn how.
